Is the Vaad HaKashrus of Flatbush the same as the Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush?
cRc has Vaad HaKashrus of Flatbush on their recommended list. I recall from years back that the Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush was not used by many. I don’t know if anything changed.
July 19, 2015 9:58 pm at 9:58 pm #1092921JosephParticipantAccording to an unauthoritative source, the Vaad HaKashrus of Flatbush is part of the Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush.
July 20, 2015 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #1092922apushatayidParticipantSpeak to an authorized source, such as your Rav. Unauthorised sources are usually nothing more than lashon hara or worse, motsi shem ra.
If the cRc says they are recommended, you might start with them and ask what they know about the hechsher that they recommend it. You recall from years back, but have no idea if anything changed, yet you have no problem insinuating there is a problem. During the 9 days no less. I’m surprised the moderators allow your innuendo aimed at groups in general, and am even more surprised when you direct it at a specific group.
July 20, 2015 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #1092923JosephParticipantThere’s been no insinuations only a question. Please brush up on the reading comprehension front.
But even more “interesting” is what one might find here from, er, our venerated poster apushatayid:
July 21, 2015 2:15 am at 2:15 am #1092924apushatayidParticipantBrush up on your sources unauthorized or not. My comprehension is fine. Your ability to hide your silly agendas is not.
July 21, 2015 2:22 am at 2:22 am #1092925apushatayidParticipantJoseph, unlike you I’ve learned a few things since 2011. Including who Rav Meir Goldberg is. Apparently you have not bothered or dont care since you are not interested in an answer to your “question”. You are just looking to stir up machlokes. Shame on you.
July 21, 2015 2:32 am at 2:32 am #1092926JosephParticipantNo, apy, you haven’t learnt much in four years. I asked a simple question and you went off the rails instead of answering it with what you purportedly “learned a few things since 2011”. I very much am interested in an answer to my question and still look forward for you to answer it, in fact, with what you’ve learned. My only “agenda” is to understand who they are and what changed since a long time ago.
So, dear apushatayid, what have you learnt since 2011 relevant to your post then and mine now?
July 21, 2015 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm #1092927apushatayidParticipantI found this info online faster than you typed your “question”
Do your own research and make your own decisions whether you wish to rely on this hechsher.
Instead of your memory and your “sources” why not go straight to the source. No need to report back.

July 21, 2015 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #1092928☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI called and asked him if he’s reliable. He told me that his hechsher is the most reliable in the world.
I know he’s telling the truth. Would someone who has the most reliable hechsher in the world lie to me?
(This has nothing to do with how good the Vaad is, rather, how futile it is to ask someone about himself whether he’s reliable.)
July 22, 2015 1:24 am at 1:24 am #1092929Francorachel3Participant@Daasyochid
Don’t believe you for a minute. I know the Rav well, and his son who’s in the vaad, he’d never speak that way, he’s humble. Tells people he’d never tell others it’s ok to eat what he himself wouldn’t eat. Better check your behavior and being Motzi Shem ra especially during the 9 days. The vaad is for sure one of the most (if not the most) reliable hechsher out there today, no politics there, no being bought off for money, no dishonesty, just straight up honesty about kashrut.
July 22, 2015 2:09 am at 2:09 am #1092930☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou badly missed my point. You weren’t suppose to believe me, except the last line.
My point was that you don’t ask the rav hamachshir how good his hechsher is, you ask an objective third party.
July 22, 2015 2:58 am at 2:58 am #1092931elicpaMemberJoseph, In answer to your question, I know what you recall from many years back. I recently asked my Rov, a well known and respected Rov in Flatbush, if anything changed? The answer was “Yes, Rabbi Goldberg can be fully relied upon in matters of Kashrus”.
July 22, 2015 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm #1092932Francorachel3ParticipantWord is that the vaad is most machmir from all the other major kashrut agencies which some of them rely on just the Baal Habayit’s word, with almost no regular inspections from the certifying agency. Vaad has regular inspections and doesn’t allow leniency which the other major kashrut agencies do allow. You’d be surprised that the biggest most well known ones are very lax and kashrut violations go unreported because there’s no major over-seeing agency to keep them all straight, that’s why it’s comforting to know Rav Goldberg has stricter standard than the others, so you know he doesn’t allow these stores and catering halls and restaurants to cut corners and get away with violations at all. He’s been known to quickly drop those stores and caterers and restaurants that he catches trying to not conform to his standards, I don’t believe the others do that. They just keep warning them to stop. Meanwhile all of us are reliant on these agencies and c’v eating something improper is a very serious thing and is M’tamtem the Leb.
July 22, 2015 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #1092934shelaimMemberI don’t think there’s a Vaad harabbonim any more, I know that many years ago when Rabbi Goldberg took over the Vaad Kashrus of Flatbush he did a total overhaul and cleaned up the whole operation and Turned it into one of the most strict hashguchas, i hear he runs a very tight ship. Agree with Fran that I also was told it’s a very reliable hechsher and there’s a lot of worrisome stuff I heard aboutsome of the other “big” hashguchas who people think are also among the “good ones” but really aren’t.
July 22, 2015 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm #1092935JosephParticipantSo it sounds like that the Vaad HaKashrus of Flatbush has nothing to do with the Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush, or at least not anymore. Many years ago the hechsheirim were given under the name of the Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush directly. I don’t recall the name Vaad HaKashrus of Flatbush being utilized decades ago.
Does the Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush still exist in any capacity? If so, what do they do?
July 23, 2015 12:07 am at 12:07 am #1092936shelaimMemberWhat and why exactly are you asking? It sounds as tho you have an agenda?
July 23, 2015 12:08 am at 12:08 am #1092937apushatayidParticipanti didnt suggest you ask if he is reliable. ask him about his standards. if they work for you great, if not, then not. either way, dont report back. its not my business if he does or does not meet the standards you set for yourself.
July 23, 2015 12:13 am at 12:13 am #1092938JosephParticipantNone. It once wasn’t used by everyone. And if it is now considered higher quality, I’d like to know that before assuming it.
Is my history correct?
July 23, 2015 3:14 am at 3:14 am #1092939☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI do occasionally call a rav hamachshir to ask about his policies. That is only part of the picture, though. I first need to know whether he is reliable, and whether he reliably implements and enforces his policies. In the context of an overall assessment of the quality of a hechser, providing a phone number is relatively insignificant, especially since, as you mentioned, it’s easily found.
July 23, 2015 5:19 pm at 5:19 pm #1092940shelaimMemberYes right now the Flatbush vaad is probably the strictest highest standards of most of the hashguchas around.
July 23, 2015 8:20 pm at 8:20 pm #1092941apushatayidParticipant“I first need to know whether he is reliable, and whether he reliably implements and enforces his policies.”
Ask him what his policies are, and how he plans to enforce them. It is not difficult to make a general assessment to determine if he adheres to those policies. an easy way is to ask the manager of an establishment “when is the rabbi expected”, if you hear “havent seen him in 2 weeks” you know there is a problem. ask the manager what the rabbi does when he is there. If the hechsher relies on a jewish manager, ask him what his qualifications are and how he knows if there is a problem that needs to be addressed. no foolproof way to determine everything, unless you move into the establishment and observe everything yourself.
June 16, 2022 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm #2097752PaltielHaLeivi5736ParticipantI had no idea so much ignorance existed when you can pick up the phone. The Vaad Harabanim of Flatbush ceased all activities as a Beis Din for Gittin/Kidushin, and Dinei Mamonos (HaRav Elimelech Bluth Zecher Tzadik LvRacha Lchayei Olam Habah).
Tne Vaad gave it a HaRav Meir Goldberg Z’L, his Son I believe Rav Shmuel Goldberg is a private Affiliate of Star K. That’s fact not speculation.
But to be unclear is one thing, to associate it with a group of Rabbanim that aged out, and who were responsible for Yiddishkeit getting to wear it is now- or using Maskilim given labels like Neo-Orthodox or Modern Orthodox, is a Sakanah. To quote HaRav Gifter I believe it’s on You Tube “I don’t know what the word Orrhodox Means.. One is a Shomer Mitzvos or not…
And if your adamant followers of hilchos lashon Harah. I’ve seen way to many posts that are based in not knowing facts, aspersions on Rabbanim of Shomer Shabbos Kehilos, who are mostly Niftar, and throwing in Chinuch questions…Definitely explains why If I were a gentile 90% of these posts are a Chilul Hasheim. -
