When I first went to Yeshiva and was wondering which one to go to, and people told me that they are all the same in learning really, except for some. I heard from somewhere that Before the war every yeshive (baronovitch, Mir, Chachmei Lublin, Radin, etc) all had different ‘styles’ of learning. Is this true? what is a style of learning, if it is all the same?

It is not a good idea to “kvetch on a blat’, but ‘fuhren’ or traveling is not good either. Look at the Sefer תנו כבוד לתורה from RAV Shimon Furst z’l and Rav Noach Isaac Oelbaum Shlita on his hakdomas complaining that halacha considerations in learning are being side stepped. Look at the Sefer חדשים גם ישנים from Rav Yonasan Steif ztz’l where he balances both. The Rif, Rosh and Rambam should be emphasized in learning because they are the עמודי הוראה. The Mechaber follows their majority in psak.

An example is the meaning of שומע כעונה. If it means that ir makes you speak, the problem is , how can you be yotze megilla when you don’t have one personally? We must say that your speaking from the mouth of the baal koreh who has a megilla, so you don’t need one yourself. They say that the kohen can be motzei another kohen in duchenen but he must also raise his hands. Raising the hands is a physical part of the mitzva whereas holding a kos is not. So you don’t need a kos to be yotze kiddush from someone else.

October 4, 2019 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #1791281Just Another YidParticipantI was really trying to figure out how the yeshivos’s styles were different from each other, but whatever…
for example: why is chofetz chaim’s style unique?October 4, 2019 6:49 pm at 6:49 pm #1791289BenephraimParticipantThe CC did not give shiur in Radin. He hired Reb Naftoli. The CC as a child had seen an old Yid in Vilna who had seen the Gaon. Similarly, I met a Jew in the Bronx who left Poland in 1906 and was zoche to see the Avnei Nezer.
