Growing up in the 70s and 80s in a Bilingual household I have memories of Yom Erlich tapes, as I grew older I developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of his music, today is his 33rd yartzit and I was wondering if anyone else here grew up with his music.

I actually never heard his original music until I heard Lipa Shmeltzer perform a melody of his work at a simcha about 15 years ago. I then discovered a treasure trove of his work on Youtube . My favorite is Avram Fried’s video rendition of Yaakov!!

He started out with records. Many of them.

I grew up with Avraham Fried’s Yiddish Gems (for those in the next generation, that was Avraham Fried’s collection of R’Erlich’s niggunim). Every year before Shavous, my father would listen to to the song of the malach going to the other nations asking if they want the Torah.

@GH, Yakob is based on a true story, the epilogue of the story was that Yakov ran away and eventually hooked up with yidden, He immgarded to the USA and opened a grocery store, Yom Tov Erlich composed and sang this at Yakovs wedding.

There’s a two volume book with all his songs, I saw one in Eretz Yisroel one time
